How to change Marital Status in BIR


How to change Marital Status (Single to Married) in BIR

Requirements for BIR

  1. Accomplished BIR Form 1905
  2. Marriage Certificate
  3. 2 Valid IDs
  4. Accomplished BIR Form 0605 (for payment of TIN card replacement fee)
  5. Original and photocopy of old TIN card (for the replacement to a new card bearing the married name)

Please take note on how to fill out the form:

  1. Provide all the required details under Part I (Taxpayer Information). Under the Registered Name field, write down your full maiden name (surname, first name, and middle name) as registered with the BIR.
  2. Proceed to Part II (Reason/Details of Registration Information Update/Correction).
  3. Under Number 5 (Replacement/Cancellation of Forms), mark the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Card box with an “X”.
  4. Under Number 6 (Other Updates), mark the Change of Civil Status box.
  5. Skip to Number 9 (Change of Civil Status). Mark the appropriate box whether you’re changing your civil status from single to married or married to single.
  6. Fill out the required fields under Number 9 with your maiden name, married name, and your spouse’s name and employment information. You’ll also need to provide your spouse’s TIN and his employer’s TIN.
  7. Proceed to Number 12 (Declaration), write your name, and sign over it.

*If you have a TIN Card and will also request for a card replacement, kindly follow these instructions:

  1. Inform the BIR officer that you’re also applying for a TIN card replacement (so that your card will reflect your new married name).
  2. Proceed to the Payment window to submit your accomplished BIR Form 0605 for verification.
  3. Pay the TIN card processing fee at your RDO’s authorized agent bank.
  4. Go back to the RDO and submit your payment receipt, machine-validated BIR Form 0605, and original and photocopy of your old TIN card to the COR Update window.
  5. Wait for the BIR officer to issue your receiving copy of the BIR Form 1905.


The officer may either issue your new TIN card after a few minutes or issue a TIN Card Claim Slip if your card will be released on a different date.

Updating of Tax Status

  1. Kindly fill-out BIR Form 1905 

Requirements

  1. Marriage contract or court Order (declaration of nullity of marriage) (1 photocopy)
  2. Valid ID

Instructions/Steps

There are two ways to submit your duly accomplished BIR Form 1905:

  1. Via email, or
  2. By personally visiting the BIR RDO where you are registered.

In case you are unable to visit the BIR RDO for the submission of your application for update of registration information, you may submit a scanned copy of your duly accomplished BIR Form 1905 with signature, along with a copy of a government-issued ID card, to the email address of the RDO where you are presently registered.

Refer to the list of documentary requirements and attach the appropriate documents (e.g. marriage certificate) to your email.


Take note that the BIR may not accept email submissions depending on the type of update or correction you’re applying for. For updates and changes that require the submission of original documents (e.g. Affidavit of Loss), you may need to personally visit the RDO and submit your BIR Form 1905 and the required documents.


Note:

Your taxes don't have effect on your status whether it was single or married. Taxes are based on your basic salary.
